Family Learning Award Winners Announced

The Family Learning Awards celebrate imaginative, engaging, and impactful approaches to working with families. Each winning organisation has made a real difference to families in the UK over the last year.

This year’s winners include an initiative for prisoners to form a bond with their child, a series of money skills workshops for schools and local communities, a scheme to introduce science to underrepresented groups, and a project to help integrate asylum-seeking families. The successful organisations in the Family Learning 2023 Awards are:

HALOW (Birmingham) winner of the Family Learning in the Early Years Award in partnership with CACHE Alumni. This award recognises any learning activity that meets the needs and addresses the challenges or issues faced by families with children between 0-5. HALOW (Birmingham) brought families together with Jolly Tots, an initiative at HMP Oakwood, providing children aged up to two with an opportunity to learn and play games together. 

Learning Unlimited, winner of the Family Learning to Support Health and Wellbeing Award. This award recognises any learning activity that meets the health and wellbeing needs, challenges and/or issues faced by families in your community. Learning Unlimited delivered the Welcome Project bringing refugee families together to learn together and find out more about their community.  

Citizens Advice Havant winner of the Family Learning to Support Financial Resilience Award. This award recognises any learning activity that builds financial literacy and skills with families. Citizens Advice Havant demonstrated how they worked across the whole of their community to change money habits. 

The University of Hertfordshire winner of the Family Learning to Support STEM Award in partnership with Maths on Toast. This award recognises any learning activity that meets the health and wellbeing needs, challenges and/or issues faced by families in your community. The University of Hertfordshire partnered with Hertfordshire Libraries to take families on a cosmic adventure and demonstrated how they sustained that curiosity in STEM with adults and children alike!

Gurpreet Keila, Deputy Director for Projects at Campaign for Learning, said: “The Family Learning Awards recognise organisations that best demonstrate a creative and forward-thinking approach to delivering learning, often in difficult settings and to underserved groups.

“All our winners have identified challenges and found solutions with an undeniable passion for their subjects, and you can’t help but feel inspired by the impact they’ve had on communities and people across the country.”
