Taking Family Learning to the House of Lords

On Wednesday 1 March, Campaign for Learning officially launched the National Centre for Family Learning at the House of Lords, with over 150 guests. Seeing so many family learning professionals and advocates in one space served as a humble reminder of the sector’s dedication to creating transformative opportunities for families.

On the day we were joined by so many people who firmly believe in developing a culture of learning within families and are invested in developing space for practitioners within the sector to connect with policy, funding and each other.

After a warm welcome, we heard compelling stories from Lord Jim Knight of Weymouth, David Gallagher, CEO at NCFE, John Beattie, Deputy Director (Families), Campaign for Learning, Henriett, a parent and teaching assistant with a wealth of experience in family learning and Juliette Collier, National Director, Campaign for Learning.

It was particularly powerful to hear from Henriet, a parent who, as a direct result of being involved with family learning, has gone on to develop a career as a teaching assistant. Reminding us that family learning opens doors for adults just as much as it does children.

Now with over 650 members, the National Centre for Family Learning is a free association for professionals working with families in any learning context supporting the development of children, young people and families.

With support from dedicated partners, we’re building a community of professionals and practitioners, from delivery to strategy level, who are working with families to inspire a love of learning.
